Building management systems, PLCs, IP cameras and access control panels sit on the same networks as your clients' laptops. They can't run an endpoint agent and they don't show up in your RMM. Everything enhanced.io has published on OT and IoT security for MSPs, in one place: the threats, the compliance pressure and how partners are already selling it.

TL;DR
The devices running your clients' buildings and production lines can't run an agent, so endpoint tools never see them
HVAC controllers, PLCs, access control, IP cameras and sensors run embedded firmware and talk in industrial protocols like BACnet, Modbus and OPC UA. EDR and MDR were built to watch processes on Windows and similar systems, so these devices stay invisible, and actively scanning or isolating them can shut down a building or a line. Securing them takes passive network monitoring that understands those protocols, correlated with the rest of the client's IT. enhanced.io is a channel-only Open XDR SOCaaS built exclusively for MSPs, with 400+ integrations across endpoint, network, cloud, identity and IoT/OT.
What endpoint-only security misses in OT and IoT
Endpoint tools do their job on laptops and servers. Building and industrial systems run real-time operating systems, can't host an agent, and can't be rebooted or isolated without stopping operations. Start here for why that leaves a gap and what closes it.

Where OT and IoT exposure sits
Manufacturing lines, smart buildings, utilities, schools and retail estates all run connected devices alongside corporate IT. These resources cover how attackers get into those systems and what monitoring looks like in each sector.

How MSPs are adding OT and IoT security
Onsite Technologies built its smart building offer on enhanced.io network visibility. Shinka IT extended its security operation into OT for manufacturing, transport and logistics clients across Belgium, Luxembourg and France.

Frequently asked questions
OT and IoT security: your questions answered
Can an MSP deliver OT security without OT specialists?
Yes. enhanced.io's 24/7 SOC monitors OT and IoT alongside IT, with analysts who work across both. A named Fractional Security Director turns findings into plain business terms for facility managers and plant owners. The MSP sells the service and keeps the client relationship without hiring an industrial security team.
Does monitoring OT devices disrupt operations?
No. Monitoring is passive. Network sensors read the traffic building and industrial systems already send, so nothing is installed on controllers and nothing actively scans them. That matters because rebooting or isolating a PLC or BMS controller can stop a production line or take HVAC and access control offline.
Which industrial protocols does enhanced.io understand?
The platform's deep packet inspection reads the protocols OT and IoT devices actually use. For industrial and building systems that includes Modbus, DNP3, OPC UA, BACnet, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, Siemens S7, IEC 60870-5-104 and IEC 61850. For IoT it includes MQTT, CoAP and Zigbee. If a client runs something not listed, send us the vendor and model and we'll confirm coverage.
Does this replace our EDR?
No. enhanced.io integrates with the EDR you already run and correlates its alerts with network, cloud, identity and OT telemetry. OT and IoT devices can't run an agent, so their coverage comes from the network. Your EDR keeps protecting laptops and servers.
