The business
A European specialty chemicals manufacturer with sites in Europe and North America. Production runs in batches under tight process and regulatory control.
What we protect
In a chemical plant, a cyber event can become a safety event. The control systems that run reactors and the safety systems that shut them down must keep doing exactly what they were designed to do.
So nothing is installed on them. Passive sensors read the process control traffic and flag changes to controller logic, new connections to safety systems and anything crossing between zones that should be kept apart.
Change control is strict, so a setpoint or program change outside an approved window is treated as worth a look. Segmentation between office, process and safety networks is checked continuously, not once a year.
Many sites run legacy systems that can’t be patched. Vulnerability management lists them, ranks them by process risk and suggests compensating measures. Office systems, sign-ins and the existing EDR are covered in the same view.
How it works
One rule comes first: nothing on a process or safety network is acted on automatically. Our Fractional Security Director agreed this with the partner team at onboarding.
AI sorts and ranks each alert, and our Expert-Led SOC analysts review what it finds. Anything uncertain goes to an analyst.
Escalations go to the partner team, who work with the site’s process engineers so every step fits the plant’s change process.
Weekly data packs and monthly reports give the partner evidence for the client’s regulatory and safety teams, mapped to frameworks such as NIS2.
HOW THE SERVICE RUNS
01
Watch
Sensors and the client’s existing tools feed activity from all five surfaces into one view.
02
AI sorts
AI sorts and ranks every alert and writes down why, so the real threats rise to the top.
03
Experts check
Our expert-led SOC investigates around the clock, with a named Fractional Security Director.
04
Partner team acts
Escalations go to the partner team, who work with process engineers so every step fits the plant’s change process.
The combination is the point.
Correlated across five surfaces
Every surface is watched at the same time, so a weak signal in one place can be matched with another.
OpenXDR intelligence layer
One platform that joins up what every surface sees, with AI triage ahead of our expert-led SOC.
Watched
IoT/OT
Process control and safety systems, watched passively and never touched
Watched
Endpoint
Laptops and servers. The existing EDR stays in place and feeds in.
Watched
Network
Traffic inside the network, watched for threats moving between systems.
Watched
Cloud
Cloud and SaaS activity, watched for risky access and changes.
Watched
Identity
Sign-ins, watched for account takeover and MFA abuse.
Outcome
For the manufacturer
Process and safety systems watched without being touched
Changes outside control windows seen quickly
Nothing on a process or safety network acted on automatically
For the partner
A way to serve a high-hazard client
A SOC that treats safety as the first rule
Evidence it can use with the client’s regulatory and safety teams
