A referral ask that does not feel awkward
From the MSP Daily Prompt, Thursday 23 Jul. The full workflow. Run the three prompts in sequence in the same conversation. Each one uses the output of the last.
What you end up with: the referral approach, a ranked list of who to ask first, and the intro the client forwards.
The scenario:
Your happiest clients would happily refer you. Most of them never do.
Either you never ask, or you ask so awkwardly that it goes nowhere. A referral ask does not have to feel like begging. Framed right, it is the cheapest pipeline you have.
The prompts:
Your AI tool of choice.
STEP 1 - Build the referral ask
You are building a referral request approach for a managed service provider.
Works in any AI tool.
Context:
- My best clients: [who they are]
- Recent wins worth referencing: [examples]
Build:
- The right moment to ask
- A short email template that makes referring easy and low-pressure
- A single sentence to say in person or on a call
- A light way to follow up if they say yes but go quiet
Make it feel natural and generous, never desperate.
-
Same conversation.
STEP 2 - Pick who and when
Help me choose targets.
From [my best clients and recent wins], tell me:
- Who to ask first and why
- The moment that makes the ask land
- Who not to ask yet
A short ranked list.
-
Same conversation.
STEP 3 - Make it easy
Give me:
- The one-line intro the client forwards to their contact
- A light follow-up if they say yes but go quiet
- A thank-you that makes them want to do it again
-
How to use it:
Referrals are the cheapest pipeline you have. Ask your happiest client this week.
