The niche you already serve. You never named it.

The scenario:

Ask an MSP their target market and most say “SMBs, 20 to 200 seats”. Ask their client list and it often says something sharper: six accountancy firms, four medical practices, a cluster of construction companies.

You built vertical expertise by accident. You solve the same compliance problems, integrate the same line-of-business apps, speak the same sector language. It is worth real money, and your marketing says none of it.

The prompts:

Your AI tool of choice.

STEP 1 - Mine the client base

Run it in your AI tool of choice.

You are analyzing an MSP client base for vertical concentration.

Context: [paste your client list: industry, seats, monthly value, tenure, services taken]

Find the concentrations: by industry, by size band, by service mix, by profitability. Identify the top two candidate niches by count and by margin, and for each, list the sector-specific problems we have evidently already solved: the apps, the compliance needs, the workflows.

-

STEP 2 - Validate the niche

For the strongest candidate niche, build the evidence case: how many clients, combined tenure, the sector problems we solve, the tools we know, the referrals available inside the sector. Then the market case: how many similar businesses exist in our region, what they currently buy, what a sector specialist charges against a generalist. Tell me honestly whether the niche is deep enough to lead with, or a secondary string.

-

STEP 3 - Build the positioning

Produce the niche positioning pack: the one-sentence claim (“the IT partner for X in region”), the proof points from step 2, a niche page outline for the website, three sector-specific outreach openers, and the internal rule for what stays generalist so we do not turn away good business outside the niche.
